Product Description

To order a product of the desired color, please write the desired color in the order comments (it will be available at the checkout stage in the shopping cart). Product height h=16cm (original height 27cm). This product is a copy of the Orange Tree (or "Laurel Tree") jewelry egg, one of the fifty-two imperial Easter eggs made by the company of Karl Faberge for the Russian imperial family. The egg was created in 1911 by order of Nicholas II, who gave it to his mother Maria Feodorovna as a traditional gift for Easter 1911. The laurel is a symbol of eternal life, granted by faith in the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ, as well as a sign of honor and recognition of merits. This gift was made in the year of the thirtieth anniversary of the accession of Maria Feodorovna to the throne (as well as the forty-fifth anniversary of her wedding to Alexander III).
Currently, the jewelry egg is in the permanent exhibition of the Faberge Museum in St. Petersburg, located in the Naryshkin-Shuvalov Palace.
The Easter egg is covered with green and white enamel and decorated with Czech crystals. The crown of the tree with a branched intricate structure of branches, decorated with Czech crystals that depict fruits and flowers, the flowers are enameled with white enamel. Also, the crown of the tree opens, and the owner is presented with a roomy box. The tree is planted in a cube-shaped tub, covered with a trellis net with sagging enamel garlands.
Maria Feodorovna was very fond of birds, they were bred in the country royal residences, and in the Anichkov Palace there was a huge cage with many birds. Indulging the empress ' passion, Faberge created an egg with a surprise bird. In the original egg, the bird is able to turn its head, open its beak, sing and flap its wings. Movement is provided by a winding mechanism. The bird appears from under the upper openwork cover of the product — among the branches and leaves, a keyhole and a tiny lever are hidden, when pressed, the hinged round top of the tree opens and a surprise appears.
After the October Revolution, along with other treasures of the imperial family, it was confiscated by the Bolsheviks. In 1927, the imperial Faberge jewelry Easter egg "Laurel Tree" was one of nine eggs sold by the All-Union Association "Antiques" to Emanuel Snowman, London. Then in 1965, after five different owners, the jewelry was sold by Mrs. Mildred Kaplan to Malcolm Forbes. In 2004, at the Sotheby's auction in New York, the egg, along with other items from the Faberge collection, was purchased by billionaire Viktor Vekselberg. It is on display at the Faberge Museum in St. Petersburg.
